v6.0.x Release notes

Release date: 21/02/2025

Overview

This release introduces a significant upgrade to the geometry processing pipeline, focusing on performance improvements to cut-based operations. The internal architecture for Cut, CutExtrude, and ContourCut has been rebuilt, allowing geometry to be processed more directly and efficiently than in previous versions.

The changes in this release are large and pervasive. Please report any behaviour that differs from core 5.x.

Improvements

  • Cut, CutExtrude, and ContourCut speed significantly increased

  • Flip speed greatly increased

  • The experimental option in the Boolean modifier is restored. Note: the experimental option performs the boolean operation internally; other options use external executables (for export) or an external service (for viewing)

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed UVs being broken after cut in some products. Occurred when cutting through the outer edge of a mesh

  • Fixed products breaking when text with leading spaces is used in the Textbox modifier

  • Fixed normal smoothing for triangles with nearly coincident edges. Resolved a display issue in the bucket seat product

  • Contains all fixes from 5.8.3

Known Limitations

The experimental geometric boolean operations (Union, Intersect, Subtract) are temporarily disabled and will be re-enabled in a future release.

What to Watch For

Pay particular attention to the correctness of mesh properties after cut operations, including UV coordinates, tags, and normals.
